Zumba Taps Employees for Zombie-Themed Halloween Campaign

Zumba's Creator and a Team of #ZumbaZombies 'Come Back to Life' Through Dance in an Interactive Digital Rollout

MIAMI, FL--(Marketwired - October 28, 2015) - Forget the cheesy costumes and Thriller-like dance moves we've been seeing for years; this Halloween, global dance fitness leader Zumba taps into its own employees for an interactive digital campaign that takes viewers on a dead-to-alive dance journey. Zumba® Creator Beto Perez and a group of home office employees (also known as Zumba® Zombies) find themselves in a post-apocalyptic world where different musical rhythms have the power to bring them back to life.

"When we launch content campaigns, it's imperative to create filters -- look at your channels and understand what your fans want," says Allison Robins, Global Director of PR. "By piggybacking on the existing zombie noise and featuring choreography and dance via our own employees, we rolled out a 3-week digital campaign with various elements to tease and engage our audience, while at the same time giving Zumba instructors the tools to take these moves to their own Halloween-themed Zumba classes."

Members of the Zumba home office staff underwent ghastly makeovers through the use of makeup and costumes, and then got to dance alongside Zumba Creator Beto Perez. In a behind-the-scenes video, makeup artist Maria Perroni Morona shares her secrets for how she helped the crew achieve the Zombie-like looks, including: "using liquid latex to kind of give like a fleshy, rotting skin, falling off…." effect.

Shot in South Florida, this project was conceptualized and directed by the Zumba home office team with the help of crew members from Tristark Productions, a local film-production firm. Using the most advanced digital technology, from Red Dragon cameras that shoot in 5K to the most sophisticated, high-flying Phantom drone that films in 4K, the campaign consists of 2 video teasers, stop motion videos and a full choreographed video with accompanying music for consumers to practice in their own Halloween-themed Zumba class.

Licensed Zumba Instructors were also given the choreography and music ahead of time on Zumba's exclusive ZIN™ Now digital platform available for members of the Zumba Instructor Network. The fun, freaky fitness campaign is sure to get everyone up and dancing, dead or alive!
