Zupan's Markets Celebrates Second Annual 'Remembering Our Founder' Month in September

John J. Zupan Foundation Continues to Support Trauma Services at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center

PORTLAND, OR--(Marketwired - September 04, 2013) -  This September, local grocer Zupan's Markets is celebrating its second annual 'Remembering Our Founder' month, in connection with the John J. Zupan Foundation. The month will feature donation opportunities to support trauma services at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The campaign begun Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 30, including the John J. Zupan Memorial golf tournament and auction on Friday, Sept. 13.

As part of the 2013 campaign Zupan's Markets has partnered with local vendors who have generously pledged to donate a portion of their product's sales to the John J. Zupan Foundation throughout the month of September. Participating products throughout the store will be displayed with a foundation shelf tag.

All donations raised will go toward Legacy Emanuel Medical Center and continue to support the expansion of trauma care services that began in 2012. Last year the inaugural campaign raised $154,570 for Legacy Emanuel. That total included contributions from Zupan's customers, associates and vendors, all of which were matched by Zupan's Markets, in addition to proceeds from the first John J. Zupan Memorial golf tournament and auction.

Since the initial campaign last year, the critical care expansion at Legacy Emanuel has included a remodel of both the Neuro Trauma and Cardiovascular ICU. Construction and updates to the newly enhanced Emergency Department are also near completion. In addition, the Emergency Department lobby will be named in memory of John J. Zupan and contain a display case sharing his life story. Future projects also include a remodel of the Clinical Decision Unit, creation of a hybrid operating room and Emergency Department observation unit.

Donations will be accepted at all four Zupan's Markets locations throughout the Portland area -- West Burnside, Southeast Belmont, Southwest Macadam and Lake Grove. Additionally, Zupan's Markets will match all donations made by company associates and customers.

The John J. Zupan Foundation was created in response to the support and treatment John Zupan received after he was struck by a car in August 2011. After arriving in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel, the expertise and compassion from the trauma team of surgeons, nurses and staff allowed him to spend his last moments surrounded by family and friends. Their selfless dedication made a lasting impression on the Zupan family and, in return, Zupan's Markets is working to ensure Legacy Emanuel's Trauma Center can continue to provide our Northwest communities with the same extraordinary service and care.

"My father held a deep passion for people and community," said Zupan's Markets president Mike Zupan. "Supporting the efforts of Legacy Emanuel Medical Center as they continue to expand their trauma services is the best way to celebrate his legacy."

In addition to the donation campaign, the John J. Zupan Foundation will also host the second annual John J. Zupan Memorial golf tournament & auction on Friday, Sept. 13 at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club.

About the John J. Zupan Foundation

The John J. Zupan Foundation was created in 2012 by the Zupan family to honor the memory of Zupan's Markets founder John J. Zupan and serves to support Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. In August 2011, John Zupan arrived in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel after being struck by a car. Because of the trauma team's expertise, he was kept alive until family and friends could arrive. Filled with gratitude for the compassion and care they experienced from Legacy Emanuel's staff, the Zupan Family established the John J. Zupan Foundation to ensure that others are able to receive the same extraordinary service and care. To learn more about the John J. Zupan Foundation, visit www.zupans.com/our-story.
