ZyXEL Expands Web Managed Switch Product Family

New Gigabit Ethernet Web Managed Switches Feature Auto VoIP for Traffic Prioritization and Auto Denial of Service Attack Prevention to Super Charge Small and Medium Business Network

ANAHEIM, CA--(Marketwire - May 12, 2008) - ZyXEL Communications Inc. today announced the addition of two new gigabit Ethernet switches, the GS1524 and the GS1548, to its existing Web managed switch product family.

Targeted at small to medium-size businesses requiring high performance networks to support virtualization and data protection applications, the new gigabit switch series offers 24 or 48 ports with four shared gigabit/SFP ports. It is the industry's first gigabit switch series to feature Auto Denial of Service (DoS) and guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS) for VoIP applications. The Web managed switch product line is ideal for businesses that require the sophisticated features of a managed switch but lack the IT resources that are needed for configuration and management.

In the small to medium-size business community, server virtualization -- or running applications in separate, isolated partitions within a single server -- is very much in demand. The benefits include improved server utilization, manageability and cost reduction, however virtualization requires high performance networks with high bandwidth availability. In addition, more and more small and medium-size businesses are turning to data protection applications like NAS (Network Attached Storage) and SAN (Storage Attached Network) to store large amounts of data. These applications and wireless 802.11n networks also require high performance. However, a large percentage of small and medium-size businesses do not have the budget for full IT staff to support the increasingly complicated demands of their networks. ZyXEL's new gigabit switch series offers customers a solution to their networking demands in an easy-to-configure package.

"Virtualization, data protection and speed are features that are in demand in the small business community," said Dana Patrick, Director of North American Channels for ZyXEL. "Now, small businesses will have access to gigabit Ethernet switches that offer the benefits they need, without the complexity of a fully managed switch, which requires the added expense of an IT staff."

For small and medium-size businesses, security is a top priority. As VoIP is one of the most popular applications on a small business network, ZyXEL's new gigabit Web managed switch series is the only solution that is bundled with Auto DoS Attack Prevention and Auto VoIP optimization to ensure quality of service. Also bundled are other advanced features like four priority queues and scheduling algorithms, bandwidth management, static MAC address forwarding and dynamic Address Resolution Protocol (ARP) that allow users to optimize their network bandwidth and security.

The GS1524 offers 24 ports and includes a streamlined intuitive Web-GUI interface for enabling specific features required by small and medium-size businesses such as, 802.1Q VLAN, 802.1p traffic priority and static port aggregation. With the Auto DoS Attack Prevention feature, the GS1524 is capable of fighting against ubiquitous attacks. All that is required is a few mouse clicks to enable the protection and there are no complicated ACL rules to configure, which greatly reduces operation problems. The GS1548 offers the same features and functionality of the GS1524, but is a higher density solution, offering 48 ports.

Pricing and Availability

The GS1524 and GS1548 have a MSRP of $429.99 and $944.99 and are currently available through ZyXEL's approved channel partners and authorized distributors. For more information about ZyXEL product lines, please call 1-800-255-4101.
